Recent Hospital Acquired Infections ICU Discovery and Solution

While conducting an assessment of an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for recent Hospital Acquired Infections (HAI), it was noted that sterile Nitrile gloves being used by employees contained irregular colors and staining. Further investigation and laboratory analysis revealed the gloves had been purchased during the COVID supply crisis.

Proper identification required Common Particulate Identification via Polarized and Reflected Light Microscopy Laboratory results revealed the existence of fine spheroids consistent with silicate particulates. The sample was also found to contain skin fragments, mold spores and natural plant matter including trichomes and pollen.

Based upon information gathered and samples data obtained, the gloves appear to have been previously used, recycled, re-packaged, and sold to medical distribution companies. Our recommendations included the removal of all same name brand gloves for proper disposal and sterilizing areas for storage.

Our ability to determine sterility of the nitrile gloves being used as “Sterile” has saved our client additional HAI’s and legal implications.closeup of a caucasian doctor man, wearing a white coat, putting on a pair of blue surgical gloves
